Jamie Lenman, live

Tonight I went to the O2 Institute 3 in Birmingham for the final night of Jamie Lenman’s tour promoting his excellent recent album Devolver. He was magnificent, one of the most talented and funny people you will ever see play a gig.

I came away with a tshirt and even more respect for him.

Harm’s Way – Posthuman

The new Harm’s Way album came out on Friday and it is a ripper – assuming you love riffs and metallic hardcore of course. I spent the weekend giving it a few streams before realising today that, yes – obviously I want to buy this record!

This will definitely be a contender for the top 20 albums of the year come December.

Forty20 magazine

Over the last couple of seasons, I’ve become a much more serious rugby league fan and have been craving intelligent, interesting writing that covers the game as a whole – not just the Super League.

Forty20 fits that bill perfectly, and comes from independent publisher Scratching Shed. With it ticking all the boxes I was looking to tick, I’ve taken out a subscription and my first issue arrived today – can’t wait to get stuck into it!

I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats

I took a chance on the podcast I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats, without knowing anything about them or their music, purely because the podcast was produced was Night Vale Presents and they have my trust.

The result? I fell in love with the Mountain Goats’ album All Hail West Texas. Just as much, I love the podcast that goes behind the music and features a different artist covering each song on the album. Those covers are available to pre-order as a special album and are well worth it.

Palm Reader’s new album

Palm Reader are fucking brilliant. Absolutely. Fucking. Brilliant.

But, the problem is too few people give enough of a shit about them. They should be far bigger than they are. They’re exactly the kind of band that need more of the people who say they love them to support them.

They have a new album called Braille coming out this April, which is available for pre-order on PledgeMusic – I ordered mine as soon as the band announced it. I went for the vinyl/t-shirt/signed card bundle.

If you need any more convincing, check out the first single Palm Reader has released from the new record – it’s called Swarm…
